Efficient and Green Document Management Solutions
Ricoh helps its customers design document efficiency strategies that are both cost-effective and promote the use of sound environmental strategies to help create a cleaner, healthier world. Some of these strategies include: - The use of multifunctional devices (MFDs) that copy, fax, print and scan within one unit results in reduced physical space requirements for the device, reduced energy consumption and reduced supply storage space requirements.
- Creating electronic document workflows to reduce the amount of hard-copy output.
- Using scan-to-e mail technology to distribute documents electronically and store scanned documents in an electronic repository.
- Using digital technology to print materials on demand - where and when they are needed - reduces obsolescence and document storage requirements.
| | Ricoh Certified Series - Our Commitment to Remanufacturing and Recycling
Remanufacturing Process
Ricoh Remanufacturing is responsible for the remanufacture of select copiers and MFDs for distribution in North America. This business unit remanufactures thousands of pieces of office equipment every year, saving environmental resources, reducing waste disposal and providing economic value to our customers. The remanufacturing process involves the thorough disassembly, inspection, cleaning and testing of these devices. During the process, key internal parts are replaced and/or refurbished, with the intention of restoring original performance, appearance and durability to the product.
In terms of weight, well over 90% of the post consumer material found in the product is retained for the remanufacturing process, including the chassis, major subassemblies, electronics and panels. For fiscal year 2007, Ricoh Remanufacturing recovered and reused more than 4.85 million pounds of material.
Parts that are deemed unsuitable for reuse are shipped to our local recycler, who then separates this waste into useful raw materials, such as metals, glass and plastics. In addition, materials such as bond paper used for testing and corrugated paper for packaging are also recycled. During fiscal year 2007, Ricoh recycled 32,120 pounds of bond paper, 34,320 pounds of cardboard and 55,000 pounds of various metals.
Ricoh Remanufacturing produces more than 10,000 units per year, allowing a significant reduction in landfill and energy use, while providing customers with high-quality, low-cost alternatives to newly manufactured equipment. Ricoh Remanufacturing is an ISO 9001:2000 registered company and is a producer of UL listed remanufactured equipment.
In addition, Ricoh UK and Ricoh Denmark recently earned the prestigious ISO 14001:2004 accreditation. ISO 14001:2004 provides Ricoh UK and Ricoh Denmark with an externally audited accreditation that demonstrates good environmental practices and sends a clear message to customers, employees and the competition that Ricoh UK and Ricoh Denmark have implemented and maintain a sustainable environmental policy. | Ricoh's Recycling Program
Ricoh, through its partnership with Nukote/EnviroSmart, is able to support inkjet and toner collection throughout the 48 contiguous states. Through the EnviroSmart Web site, Ricoh has the ability to track and report on the quantity of returned items, by date, location, SKU and type (ink or laserjet). Any Ricoh customer can be set up in the EnviroSmart database as a Parent Account, with individual customer locations assigned unique "RepCodes" for ship to and tracking purposes.
On behalf of Ricoh, EnviroSmart strives to obtain a zero landfill position with all of the inkjet and toner cartridges returned through this program. Many of the returned cartridges are remanufactured into new cartridges for Nukote products, some are sold to other remanufactures for a similar purpose and most of the remaining cartridges are demanufactured and sent to appropriate recycling facilities. | Ricoh Operations - Our Commitment to a Greener World
Environmental initiatives are in place throughout Ricoh locations in North America and Western Europe. These initiatives include reuse of materials, when possible; reduction of waste; and partnering with vendors who practice environmental conservation initiatives. | Ricoh applies cost-effective business practices that support the following principles: - Conservation of natural resources (e.g. water, energy, materials)
- Protection of the environment by using products, whenever possible, composed of recyclable or reusable recycled materials and that cause as little environmental impact as possible during manufacture, use and disposal
- Elimination or minimization of environmental risks to our employees, the community and the environment
- Promotion of environmental values and practices, wherever possible
- Companywide use of electronic communication (e.g. conference calls, e mail, online tracking logs, training classes, invoices, electronic funds transfer for billing/payment) tremendously reduces paper usage and travel.
- Ricoh actively recycles, where possible, including aluminum, computer paper, white bond and book paper, laser printer cartridges, newspapers, plastic, shipping cartons and packing materials.
| Ricoh and Energy Star
